Settings Icons

Settings usually means one of two shapes — a gear/cog, or a set of horizontal sliders — and interfaces don't always agree on which one to use. This page collects both variants across Pathwork's libraries, from simple six-tooth gears to more detailed cogs, plus slider-style alternatives, so you can pick whichever convention fits your navigation or preferences screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are widely recognized conventions. A gear/cog tends to suggest general configuration or system settings, while sliders (horizontal lines with toggle points) more specifically imply adjustable preferences or filters. Either works for a general settings page — pick based on which matches the rest of your icon set's style, or use sliders specifically for a filter panel and gear for account/system settings.

There's no strict standard — some libraries use a simpler 6-tooth gear for clarity at small sizes, while others use 8 or more teeth for a more detailed, realistic look. More teeth can start to blur together at very small sizes, so a simpler gear is often more legible in compact UI elements like a small toolbar icon.

This is mostly a stylistic choice between libraries rather than a meaningful distinction — some show an empty circle in the gear's center, others include a solid dot or a smaller inner circle. Both represent the same settings concept; pick whichever matches your icon set's visual weight.

This typically follows the same pattern as your other navigation icons — many apps use outline icons for inactive tabs and filled versions for the active tab, so check what convention your other nav icons (like home or profile) already follow and match it.

Each icon keeps the license from its source library attached to it, and terms can differ depending on which library a specific icon comes from. Check the license shown on the individual icon's page before using it commercially.

The icons themselves on this page are static; a hover rotation is typically built with your own CSS transition applied to the icon (e.g. 'transform: rotate()' on hover) rather than an animation baked into the SVG file.
